Wayne is off the grid, the mad scientist of electric boats. A man who somehow convinced himself that racing the Fastnet without fossil fuels is a good idea.
When he’s not fine-tuning Nazca’s systems or testing sail plans, he’s plotting a way to sail to Ireland for a pint of Murphy's.
As captain of this questionable operation, he’s responsible for keeping everyone alive, keeping the boat moving and ensuring that at least some decisions are made with logic rather than gut instinct and caffeine.
Just don’t ask him to sail conservatively. If there’s wind, he’s using all of it.
Bee is the calm in the storm, the voice of reason and the person who will inevitably have to remind Wayne that maybe now is not the time for "science" experiments.
With a deep understanding of the sea and a zero-tolerance policy on bad coffee, she ensures that no-one onboard gets too carried away, unless it’s in the right direction. Whether it's balancing sail trim, managing sleep schedules or making sure everyone has a decent meal at least once a day Bee is the team’s rock.
If you hear “Are you sure about that?” from the helm, that’s probably her trying to prevent disaster.
Oskari is the silent assassin of strategy, a man who doesn’t say much, because he doesn’t need to. He sees the wind before it even knows where it’s going and can analyse a racecourse like a chessboard.
As the tactician, he’s the one making the big calls; calculating angles, watching for shifts and making sure Wayne doesn’t do anything stupid.
Being Finnish, he’s built differently; immune to cold, emotionally unshaken by 40-knot squalls and capable of navigating with skills which can only be likened to that of a turtle.
If Wayne is the mad scientist of electric boats, George is the engineering pirate making it all actually work. Together, they were the first to ditch diesel with Muhuhu and Nazca, proving electric sailing wasn’t just a dream (or a fire hazard)! George is the guy who turns wild ideas into reality. If it floats and moves, he’ll claim it was intentional.
Sinead has spent years keeping George and Wayne from accidentally inventing time travel. The logistical mastermind behind the madness, she ensures things happen on time, in the right place and with minimal swearing. If you need something done properly, talk to Sinead. If you need something fixed quickly, she’s probably already done it.
Alan doesn’t just make sails, he crafts speed. A guru of trim and sorcerer of sailcloth, he can spot a bad setup before the boat even leaves the dock. With an encyclopaedic knowledge of IRC ratings, lamination, and why your mainsail is definitely wrong. If he ever whispers to a sail, just go with it, he knows things you don’t.
It's only right that our partnerships are unique too.
Our mission is for the ocean, the Fastnet race is just the test for the next adventure. If you'd like to help us write the next chapter and give the ocean a voice, please reach out!
